How to use the password generator

  1. Move the slider to choose a length. Longer passwords are stronger.
  2. Tick the kinds of characters you want: uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.

How it keeps your password strong

  • Shows the strength in bits of randomness, worked out from the length and the number of possible characters.

What makes a password strong

Length matters most. Each extra character multiplies the number of possible passwords, so a long password with letters only can be stronger than a short one full of symbols.

Use a different password for every account. If one site is breached, the others stay safe. A password manager makes this easy because it remembers them for you.
