Free ATS Resume Checker

This ATS resume checker compares your resume with a job post. It shows which keywords from the post are missing, whether common sections are found and whether your email and phone number can be read. Paste both texts, press Check resume and read the score. Your text stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.

PDF or .docx. Old .doc files and scanned pages cannot be read as text. Your file stays in your browser and is never uploaded.

Your text stays in your browser. Nothing is sent or saved.

How to use the ATS resume checker

  1. Copy the text of your resume and paste it into the first box.
  2. Paste the job post into the second box. This is optional, but it is needed to check keywords.
  3. Press Check resume.
  4. Read the score and the lists. Add missing keywords only where they are true for you, then check again.

What an applicant tracking system does

An applicant tracking system, or ATS, is software that employers use to store resumes and let recruiters search and filter them. Systems differ from one employer to the next, so no tool can say exactly how yours will read a resume. This checker looks at basics that matter to both software and people: clear section headings, readable contact details and the words used in the job post.

What this ATS resume checker looks at

  • Keywords: up to 60 points. The tool picks up to 20 of the most used words in the job post and checks if each one is in your resume.
  • Sections: up to 25 points. It looks for Experience, Education and Skills headings.
  • Contact details: up to 10 points. It looks for an email address and a phone number.
  • Length: up to 5 points. It gives the points for 250 to 1,000 words.

If you leave the job post box empty, the score uses only sections, contact details and length, scaled to 100.

Tips to improve your resume score

  • Use plain headings such as Experience, Education and Skills.
  • Use the same words as the job post when they are true. If the post says project management, do not write only managing projects.
  • Do not repeat a keyword again and again. It reads badly to a person.
  • Save your resume as a file with real text, such as .docx or a text PDF. A scan or a picture of a page cannot be read as text.
  • Ask the employer which file type they want if the post does not say.

Frequently asked questions

Does this show my real ATS score?

No. Every employer uses its own system and settings. This tool gives a simple check of keywords, sections and contact details, so you can fix common gaps before you apply.

Is my resume saved or sent anywhere?

No. The check runs in your browser. Your text is not uploaded or stored.

Should I add every missing keyword?

No. Add only the ones that describe skills and work you really have. Keep the resume honest and easy for a person to read.

Why are some words in the job post ignored?

The tool skips common filler words such as with, team and experience, so the list shows the words that set the job apart.

What score is good?

A score of 80 or more is strong, 60 to 79 is fair and under 60 needs work. These bands are only a guide for this tool.
