How to invert the colors of an image

  1. Drop your image onto the box, or tap the box to choose a file.
  2. The colors flip at once. Lower the Strength slider for a softer, partial effect.
  3. Press Download PNG to save the result.

What inverting does

Every pixel has a red, green and blue value from 0 to 255. Inverting swaps each value for 255 minus the old value. Black (0) becomes white (255), and white becomes black. A mid gray stays close to the same gray.

Use the effect to make a dark version of a black on white logo or scan, to see a photo as a film negative, or to check how a design looks with colors reversed. A black logo on a clear background turns white, so the preview can look empty on a light backdrop. Place the file on a dark page to see the logo.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get my original colors back?

Yes. Invert the saved file again at 100% and the original colors return.

What does the Strength slider do?

At 100% the colors are fully inverted. At 50% the picture turns flat gray, because each color sits halfway to its opposite. Pick a value in between for a faded effect.

Does inverting change see through areas?

No. Only color values change.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The colors are inverted in your browser, on your device.
