The blur is made inside your browser. Your image is never uploaded to a server.

How to blur an image

  1. Drop your image onto the box, or tap the box to choose a file.
  2. Move the Blur amount slider. The preview changes as you drag.
  3. Press Download PNG to save the blurred picture.

What you get

  • A PNG with the same look as the preview, up to 3000 pixels on the longest side.
  • A blur sized to your image, so the same setting looks alike on a small photo and a large one.
  • Clean edges. Clear areas of a PNG stay clear, with no dark halo around the shape.
  • No sign in and no upload.

When to blur a picture

A soft picture makes a good background for a banner, a slide or a post, because text on top stays easy to read. A light blur also hides small flaws, such as noise in a dark photo.

To hide private details such as a plate number or a street sign, use a high setting. A light blur can still show the shape of letters. The tool blurs the whole image, not one spot.

Frequently asked questions

How much will my image blur?

The slider runs from 0 to 100. The blur grows with the size of the picture, so 30 looks about the same on a phone photo and on a large scan. Try 20 for a soft look and 70 or more for a heavy blur.

Can I blur only part of a photo?

Not yet. The tool blurs the whole image.

Does a PNG with a clear background keep its clear areas?

Yes. Clear pixels stay clear, and the blur adds no dark edge.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The blur is made in your browser, on your device.
