How to change the color of an image

  2. Click the picture to pick the color you want to change. The Color to change box updates.
  3. Choose the New color, or tick Make this color see through.
  4. Move How close a color must be until the right areas change. Press Download PNG.

What you get

  • A PNG at the same size as your image, up to 4096 pixels on the longest side.
  • Colors close to the one you picked are changed. Other colors stay as they are.
  • Soft edges, so the border between old and new color does not look jagged.
  • Areas that are already see through stay see through.

Which images work best

Logos, icons, drawings and screenshots work best, because each color is one flat shade. A photo has many shades of every color, so a low setting changes only a small patch. Raise How close a color must be to catch more shades, and check the preview as you go.

To remove a plain background, pick the background color and tick Make this color see through. PNG keeps the clear area. A JPG cannot, so PNG vs JPG explains when to use each.

Frequently asked questions

What does How close a color must be do?

It sets how far a color can be from the one you picked and still change. At 0% only the exact color changes. At higher values, similar shades change too.

Can I change one color of a photo?

Yes, but the result depends on the photo. Shadows and highlights are different shades, so you may need a higher setting and may see rough edges. Flat artwork gives cleaner results.

Does the tool keep see through areas?

Yes. Pixels that are already clear stay clear.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The color change is made in your browser, on your device.
